At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner reached the summit of Mt. Lhotse, which at 8,516 m, is the world’s fourth highest mountain.Gerlinde was accompanied by her husband, Ralf Dujmovits, and two other fellow mountaineers, and this success means that like the Spanish climber, Edurne Pasadan (who successfully climbed Mt. Kangchendzänga on May 18, 2009), Gerlinde has now conquered twelve of the fourteen 8,000 m-peaks. Moreover, Ralf Dujmovits has also become the first German mountaineer to climb all fourteen.
Gerlinde is now returning to her home in the Black Forest in Germany, in order to undertake active recuperation before leaving for Pakistan at the end of June to tackle the K2, her thirteenth 8,000 m challenge.
The Banner family would like to congratulate Gerlinde on her latest, outstanding achievement!
